"Yep! My Dad..."

A person who has always inspired me?
"Yep! My Dad!" the answer would be.
I understand the things he always says
To come up in life discovering your ways.

Every time I see my father's face
A feeling of respect forms in my heart's base.
Feelings of love and gratitude formed in me
Clearly difficult to put in words, they would be.

And yet how is he an inspiration?
I will answer with a great mark of exclamation.
A person who has always influenced me?
"Yep! My Dad", again the answer would be.

The care and love I could find
Leaving his anger behind...
When his lips curled into a smile
I stared at it for a while.

Always he has been a motivation
Those times when I was in desperation.
The kindness, I felt in him and hence
My father means to me a spark of confidence.

പതിവ് പോലെ ചെയ്യേണ്ട പണി ചെയ്യാൻ നേരത്തു മാത്രം വരുന്ന നൊസ്റ്റാൾജിക് റഷ് വീണ്ടും ഒരു ചാറ്റൽ മഴ പോലെ മനസ്സിൽ പെയ്തപ്പോൾ  ഞാൻ ഒരിക്കൽ കൂടി കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചെത്തി. കൊച്ചി നഗരത്തിലെ ഒരു ഒൻപതാം നില ഫ്ലാറ്റിൽ ഇരുന്നു ഞാൻ രണ്ടായിരങ്ങളിലെ കരിവെള്ളൂരിലേക്ക് വീണ്ടും ഉറ്റുനോക്കി.  നാട്ടിൽ വീട് വെച്ച ആ വേനൽക്കാലം ഇന്നലെ എന്ന പോലെ ഓർമയുണ്ട്. രണ്ടായിരത്തി നാല്  മെയ് മാസം. ദിവസം ഓർമയില്ല. ഏതോ ഒരു തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് തീയതി ആയിരുന്നു എന്ന് മാത്രം ഓർമയുണ്ട്. വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാൻ പോയതുകൊണ്ട് വീട് കൂടലിനു എത്താൻ വൈകി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ അതിഥികളെ ഓർക്കുന്നു. ഡെമോക്രസി എന്താണ് പൊളിറ്റിക്സ് എന്താണ് എന്നറിയാത്ത ഒൻപതു വയസ്സുകാരി എനിക്ക് വോട്ട് ചെയ്യൽ ആണോ സദ്യ ഉണ്ണൽ ആണോ ഇവർക്കൊക്കെ കൂടുതൽ പ്രധാനം എന്നായിരുന്നു മനസ്സിൽ.  എന്തായാലും പറഞ്ഞു വന്നത് ആ വേനൽ കാലത്തെ പറ്റി. അത്തവണ പതിവിലും നേരത്തെ വേനൽ മഴ കിട്ടിയിരുന്നു എന്നാരോ പറഞ്ഞത് ഓർക്കുന്നു. വീടിന്റെ അടുത്തുള്ള തറവാട്ടമ്പലത്തിലെ കുളം അത്തവണ നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു, ഞങ്ങളെ കാത്തുകൊണ്ടെന്ന പോലെ. നീന്തൽ അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അച്ഛന്റെ നാടിനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള അത് വരെയുള്ള വര്ണ

Windows of Joy

Mobile phone blares the latest trending song.  Time to rise and shine. Can't sleep for long! Another day of adulthood, take it on like the champion that you are.  Pour yourself some hot coffee, or masala tea in a jar,  If coffee is not your cup of tea.  Half an hour precisely, you have; to drink your hot beverage,  Have your bowl of that new cereal that came in that cool looking package. Shower, get dressed and be on your way out.  Carpe diem! Plug in those earphones as you go about Listen to your favourite tunes, or that podcast on winning in life.  And then endure the next 10 hours of work-work-work-work Share a cup of coffee/ tea with your peers, when you're out of luck Or share your miseries. If you have no friendly peer, Log on to instagram and share existential memes and sneer.  Windows of joy you create in joyless concrete jungles.     The clock tolls 9. Dual Lives

It gets quite maddening to live dual lives; one inside our small screens and one outside of it. Even while we try to replicate the outside world in the world within the small screens, it is not quite the same. In the world within the small screens, there is hardly any sign of real emotions or vulnerability, barring the personal messages. The world of the small screens invites us to "explore" a world full of happiness, adventure, poems and love. It's all either travel bugs happily showing us greener pastures, literally, or the aesthetic curators showing their perfectly decked homes and kitchens despite a seemingly thriving career. Everyone is happy, lucky or in love.  Does the instagram chef have a magical kitchen where the cooking leaves no grease marks? Or does he have a magic spell to make the stains vanish?
